2010: selewie (Price: 30.- CHF & forwarding charges) -> Available from about 12th November
«Selewie!» is exactly what one thinks of when listening to Appenzeller Echo. These three musicians deeply rooted in the tradition of Appenzeller music, sing, yodel, play music, and “rugguselen” (a form of nature yodel)authentically, while still infusing their own unique mark. Since its formation in 1997, Appenzeller Echo has demonstrated that they are true freethinkers, as evident on their previous album «dörigehnt», in which they dedicated themselves to paying homage to folk music around the world, as well as incorporating influences from old movie classics to spirited Irish fiddle tunes.
The new CD «selewie», however, stays true to the many lovers of popular waltzes, polkas, “ratzliedli” (satirical songs) and yodels that you would expect from the Appenzell region. In doing so, the Appenzeller Echo has fully returned to its roots.
The dialect expression “selewie” is an expression of surprise.
«Dörigehnt» – this expression from Appenzell standing for cows or goats that break out – fits in the figurative sense splendidly to the musical preferences and styles of the Appenzeller Echo. The Appenzell-based group, lead by brothers Josef and Benjamin Rempfler, exists since 1997 and recorded with bassist Walter Neff as a trio and accordion player Hans Keller as a quartet this CD, which offers an actual cross section of their musical repertoire: from traditional music for strings, Appenzeller music with vocals, yodeling with thaler rolling and concertante Appenzeller music to titles, that originate from outside the region of Appenzell, with influences such as Swing, Cajun (music of the French speaking immigrants of Louisiana, U.S.A.), Hungarian, Irish, Colombian or Russian folklore ... in other words, «a dörigehnti CD»!

New CD "Mini Freud" by our bass player Walter Neff
The idea was to record his musical creativity on a new CD, with various formations. On this CD you can hear formations and bands, which Walter enjoys precious hours throughout the year - as an active musician and singer and musical director. On four yodelin song, "Hirschli" sings all the voices himself.
